About this speaker

Callie Ward is a qualified teacher based in the UK. She has previously worked in both a mainstream and SEN school but after her niece was diagnosed with Rett syndrome in January 2015 she focused on supporting her to develop communication abilities. Through this she met Susan Norwell and had the amazing opportunity to train and learn with her.

Alongside Abigail, Callie launched the Rett UK Communication and Education Project in 2017; running training events and a loan device scheme to help people get started with AAC as well as out about communication groups to support using AAC in a range of environments.

Callie now works independently teaching children and adults with Complex Needs to communicate, read and write in regular individual and group classes. Callie’s niece, Sofia, is now a sassy 7-year-old who uses an eye gaze device to communicate and is reading and writing using low tech method. You can find video here of how they do this – fb.me/AACTeaching

Callie's conference talks will remain available as replays until 20th November 2021.
